...to my blog. Here you'll find the latest news about me (YAY), recent photos, ramblings, projects, and hopefully some humor. If you're new here, please feel free to poke around, search my categories, and post any comments. If you are returning, welcome back, I hope I have something new to show you!
Just in case you're wondering, who is Terra? What makes her tick? Okay, you're probably not wondering all that, but still I'd like to let you know that for me photography has led me to the best career ever. I feel so blessed to have been let into such intimate moments of peoples lives, to have the power to cause them to shed tears of joy, to have been hugged by so very many of them, it's beyond words. So although (of course) I love photography, what really drives me are the moments the camera records, and the drive to catch more than an image, but the texture of your skin, the way even the air felt that day. I hope, in the end, my images live up the reality. Please enjoy.
Rush, rush, rush, but still trying to find time to share. There are so many great images from Jack and Christina’s wedding (many of them still downloading!), but I wanted to take a little bit of time to share. I’ve been challenging myself to do more creative group shots, and when I showed up yesterday I realized that this couple was the perfect couple to attempt that with. Here are some of the results! Hope you are all having a be-yoo-ti-ful weekend!
Wow, we’ve just gone through a bit of marathon posting! I still have three more sessions to post… but I’m off to two weddings for this Friday and Saturday. However before I left I wanted to leave you with Stan and Luka’s special event.
Stan and Luka were married a while back in a beautiful ceremony at the San Francisco City Hall. Although their day was special and memorable, they still wanted the celebration with friends and family that they hadn’t had. This was it. Luka had a chance to wear a second dress (which I have to say that all of us ladies are probably a bit envious of), Stan dressed up once more, and they had the party they were dreaming of.
There were so many little details to their wedding that truly made it unique, and so I just feel the need to mention them. Utilizing the homes green decorations, they chose to work this into their own theme with green candles, centerpieces, a vase filled with freshly cut limes (which smelled fabulous by the way), and the mojito as their signature drink. Each table was lined with centerpieces that contained floating candles, settings complete with menus, and small votives that had each guests name printed on them.
Taking photographs during a sit down reception can be tricky, I mean who really wants a photo of themselves eating? But there are ways to do this that can turn out wonderfully, and one of them is to have a candle lit reception and lovely setting. This was accomplished magnificently I thought. In addition I was so excited, it’s not often I get to show off my low light skills! At one point the bartender walked past me and said, “Ooh, it’s dark now, bet you hate that” and I responded with an enthusiastic, “No… I love it!”. Hope you enjoy the show!
If you asked me, what are the two things you will always remember about Carly and Nathan’s wedding I would respond:
The sky
The air guitar as 80s rock played in the background
oh, and then I’d quickly throw in: cute sandals, Carly’s hair, their CAKE!, the toasts, and the family love. Congratulations Carly, I hope you and Nathan meet in the middle of how many children you’d like to have… I think that might be 3. Two more for him, two less for you. Enjoy your adventure, I’m so happy I was able to be a small part of it.
I don’t normally write that much when posting images from weddings, this is for a few reasons. One, wow let’s get on to the killer fantastic images!! Yes, I love the photos I am privileged take, however I feel that I am in no way biased, since I am above this type of self promotion. ;p Two, I think that the slideshows that accompany each post tell a compelling story that no words could ever equal.
This time however? I just have to share. First of all, I heart Karen. I met her last year with her cousin Rafael and now wife Lorena. They booked me for their wedding and when Karen heard that they were meeting up with a potential photographer, she tagged along. Although her wedding was more than a year out she already had a planning binder complete with a layout of her reception halls floor plan. Did I say I heart Karen? In addition, her fiance’s name was Jorge (pronounced of course, George). My favorite uncle’s name is George, my BF’s dad’s name is George, and I just in general think George’s are awesome. After meeting Karen’s Jorge and seeing how much fun he had at his wedding I think she found yet another awesome Jorge. But on to the story of their day!
There are so many special things about Karen and Jorge’s day, I just don’t know where to begin. Karen’s dress was customized with a special piece of embroidery, her and Jorge’s initials in blue. The dress was amazingly beautiful. So detailed, so extravagant, so special. When her parent’s blessed her, and her father teared, up, I couldn’t stop thinking how momentous an occasion this was.
Karen and Jorge are more than husband and wife, they are family. When their slideshow played at their reception, all the years they have known each other and been in love was out there for everyone to see. You see, even though they are both very young, they have been dating for over ten years. That’s right, TEN YEARS! They’ve grown up together, Jorge is friends with Karen’s cousins and family, their lives are already forever intertwined.
Back to the wedding though! Again, sorry that my words cannot do the day justice, but I’ll definitely try. During dinner they had Traditional Mexican dancers come out to entertain the crowd. Yay! I loved that touch. Then of course we moved on to the money dance. This is one of my favorite traditions, and such a cool photo opportunity you wouldn’t believe it. It’s great to have an opportunity to see so many of your guests one on one and share a brief special moment with them. Jorge looked a little bit like a bunny at the end, those guests sure are creative! Then it was time to throw the bouquet and garter, the guest that caught the garter got a special spanking from his wife. OOPS! And last I just have to mention the little boy that got on stage and sung his heart out. I thought it was a record! Look out world, he could be the next Ricky Martin! Sorry, I just think Ricky Martin is so handsome and talented. If you could have heard this little guy, I think you’d agree with me as well.
The song that accompanies the slide show is a song Karen chose by Luis Miguel. My mother (bilingual and so therefore much much more talented that I) loves Luis Miguel and often goes to see him in concert. According to her, he’s ‘sexy’. When she heard that Karen had ‘Amanacer’ to be played at the wedding for Jorge she told me what a beautiful song it was. And so, for all those who, like me, aren’t blessed to know two languages, here is a short translation (just so you don’t feel left out).
“To awaken with the purpose of knowing that I am yours, that I belong only to you, that never again will my dreams feel cold, it’s to have a future now. To wake up and see that I have you next to me. That which I have for so, so long, sought to have, it is a pleasure and privilege to me.”
It was so great seeing Rafael and Lorena again! They looked radiant! Karen and Jorge CONGRATULATIONS! Please please send all of your cousins my name, I can’t imagine not seeing your family again in the future. Your family is the best.
You managed to capture every laugh, tear and smile and I now find myself reminiscing over every detail. You even got the B-Complex! If it wasn’t for that magic pill I think I would have had an anxiety attack I had such a great time at my wedding it was the biggest “Birthday Party” I have ever had (it felt like it was my B-day).
I love every single picture, your attention to detail is incredible and I love, love, love our song “Amanecer” on the slide show. Jorge and I are not planning to have kids right away, but I promise that when we do, you will be at the baptism shooting another chapter of our life’s.
Thank you so much Terra!
