Just in case you're wondering, who is Terra? What makes her tick? Okay, you're probably not wondering all that, but still I'd like to let you know that for me photography has led me to the best career ever. I feel so blessed to have been let into such intimate moments of peoples lives, to have the power to cause them to shed tears of joy, to have been hugged by so very many of them, it's beyond words. So although (of course) I love photography, what really drives me are the moments the camera records, and the drive to catch more than an image, but the texture of your skin, the way even the air felt that day. I hope, in the end, my images live up the reality. Please enjoy.

Meg + Matt = Engaged!

Meg and Matt met through friends.

That were trying to date one another. How did they get involved? They were the friends brought along. You know, that comfort friend? We all have one! In the end their relationship didn’t pan out, but Meg and Matt? Theirs did. When I asked Meg how he had proposed she surprised me by saying that, actually, she had proposed. Awesome! Do you know how long I’ve been waiting to hear that answer? Of course I had to ask how nervous she was. I would be a wreck! But she knew what his answer would be, and Matt sort of saw this coming, so although there were butterflies, she wasn’t the wreck I would be. Drat. Why does everyone always withstand pressure better than I do?

We met out in the Presidio for this session, the day was gray, but the rain held off for us. I love the images that come from this kind of weather. Moody and dreamy. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Phil + Diana = Matthew & Isabella (in waiting)

We originally made time for this session but then had to cancel due to rain. Both Diana and I started to get a bit nervous, not so much from her due date but more because, oh my goodness, she looks about ready to deliver! I asked her if she was sure she wasn’t further along, and she assured me she wasn’t. I find that there are different stages of pregnancy:

1. Yay you’re pregnant and you look exactly the same!
2. Yay you’re pregnant, or hmm, burrito for lunch?? ;p All my girlfriends hate this stage since they feel like they look as if they’ve gained weight, rather than being 4-5 months along. I always vote for them looking cute and pregnant, but it seems as if my vote doesn’t count?
3. Your belly popped out overnight and you look instantly pregnant. This is the stage most of my friends and clients seem happiest at.
and
4. You are ‘beautiful’ pregnant, because oh my goodness that baby is coming out any day and we can just imagine holding it. Okay, yes, I admit. This is the stage my friends complain about the most! They are tired. They have trouble sleeping. Husbands have now become pully systems that help you get up from sitting and lying positions. Translation? This is the part they want over the quickest! Next to morning sickness of course!

The day of the session came and Matt was every bit as rambunctious as you hear little boys are. He was running, he was playing, he was just having a great time. His aunty and uncle came to help out, and he popped in a few times for his beauty shots. =)

Yesterday I heard that Diana was 1 centimeter dilated! So now these family photos will soon be complete. Enjoy guys!

Louriel + Michael = Engaged!

I’d like to give Louriel and Michael some kind of gold star for being so much fun, amazing, and completely willing to be silly. Wondering why they get the gold star? So often on engagement sessions I will tell a couple that I will loosely guide them into poses, and then encourage them to interact with one another, make it their own. The pay off is that hopefully they have an amazing time together, and their true personalities will have the chance to come out in the photography. For one set of images I was simply trying to catch the engagement ring as they were holding hands, before I knew it Michael was dancing with Louriel and had gone completely off track. This is how you get into my gold star hall of fame.

Also? He gave me updates on the Giants game!! Who doesn’t love smart phones?
