Last year I was blessed to photograph Kelly and Pat’s wedding,
wait
I’d like to say something here: I don’t cry at weddings. I used to, a long time ago, and while I still always feel incredibly blessed to be at a wedding watching couples exchange their vows (I get this feeling of being so very close to God when in a room so filled with love), I rarely if ever cry.
Pat and Kelly, you made me cry. Two couples managed to do this last year, catch me off guard with unexpected vows, over the top sentimentality, and love coming from a direction that I just didn’t expect.
Michelle (my second shooter) and I are used to how absolutely fabulous my couples are. We take it in stride. But let me tell you, when I have guest second shooters? They’re not used to how amazing you are! And I regularly catch them crying buckets.
Kelly, Pat, your vows were funny and tender, celebrating both the minutiae of your personalities and your life together as a couple. I wish I had them written down, or that I had a photographic memory, because I often think of your wedding day and wish I could recall the words, the exact words, of you two expressing your love for one another. I never imagined that a reading from Winnie the Pooh could be so perfectly placed in a couples ceremony.
Although I can’t share their vows, I so want to share their details, because it tells a better story than I ever could.
In the following images you will see the squirrel pillows that Kelly’s sorority sisters placed on the benches surrounding the ceremony and reception area. An old inside joke, Kelly received many squirrel inspired gifts that day! Such attention and care was given to all things paper (hello who doesn’t love beautiful handwritten tags?), but family was far from ignored. Their welcome table featured wedding photos from Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and more on both sides. Their cake topper was handed down, and Kelly tied her parent’s rings to her bouquet as she walked down the aisle. The long awaited surprise came at the end of the night when their neighborhood ice cream truck (Kelly chased him down one day as she saw him driving past!), popped in for a late night treat.
I hope you love these images, I hope you’re inspired, and if you are one of my valued 2013 couples, I can’t wait to see what you have in store!
